What sort of rosehips are best?

The articles I’ve read so far don’t differenciate between wild and garden hips. One article said they are best gathered after the first frost when their fruit flesh turns soft and sticky. So I guess just give it a go with whatever you can find and see how you get on

Hey, the old fashioned roses, esp rosa rugosa and rosa canina (dog rose) are the best medicinally – that’s actually backed up by real research btw. I’ve been interested in wild edibles and medicinals for ages, and studying public health gave me access to medical databases. Most of the research is pretty exploratory though, and of course they use standardised preparations of the active compunds rather than DIY-style rosehip tea or syrup!
Rosa canina – anti-inflammatory, good for joint pain, high in lycopene (an antioxidant), oil is high in unsaturated fats.
Rosa Rugosa – anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory.
